get away with

to do something wrong without being caught or punished.

  • You shouldn't let me get away with murder.
  • You shouldn't let him get away with cheating.
  • You can't let Tom get away with telling lies about you.
  • We can't let Tom get away with murdering those four people.
  • Politicians in Japan sometimes get away with doing illegal things.
  • If I thought I could get away with it, I wouldn't pay tax at all.
  • I can't believe you got away with sneaking out of your house last night. Your father didn't hear you.
  • If you think you can get away with cheating on the exam, you've got another thing coming.
  • If he thinks he can get away with cheating me, he's very much mistaken.
  • Apparently once you become an octogenarian you can say what you like and get away with it. I can't wait to turn eighty.
